I have to say that a combination somewhere with the Hallertauer and a small amount of the Mt. Hood could make a good "American Twist" on this.

There was a comment from Matt Brophy, the Head Brewer, that said something about an American twist. How about using some US Liberty or even some US Mt Hood.

Either of those mixes sound really good.

And I like the idea of some flavor hops. I'm cool with that.

Personally, I like a blend of Hallertauer (preferably Mittelfrueh) and Saaz...say 67% Hallertauer/33% Saaz. I came up with this ratio after seeing it in Wheeler and Protz's recipe for Eggenberg Ur-bock, and liked it a lot.

I concur with 25 IBUs bittering, but I would also advocate a low end flavor hop addition...say at the 15-20 minute mark. Same ration of hops for an additional 1-2 IBUs (not a lot, for 5 gallons of homebrew I usually add a half-ounce of these low alpha noble hops).

For the American twist variety, I would suggest 67% Vanguard of Mt. Hood/33% Sterling

Perle.

Definately.

Good clean and minty!

On the higher end for the style, say ~25 IBUs all bittering.

Of course, it would be exciting if someone knew how to work American hops into the beer to give it a nice American twist.
