Perle.

Definately.

Good clean and minty!

On the higher end for the style, say ~25 IBUs all bittering.

Of course, it would be exciting if someone knew how to work American hops into the beer to give it a nice American twist.

Personally, I like a blend of Hallertauer (preferably Mittelfrueh) and Saaz…say 67% Hallertauer/33% Saaz. I came up with this ratio after seeing it in Wheeler and Protz’s recipe for Eggenberg Ur-bock, and liked it a lot.

I concur with 25 IBUs bittering, but I would also advocate a low end flavor hop addition…say at the 15-20 minute mark. Same ration of hops for an additional 1-2 IBUs (not a lot, for 5 gallons of homebrew I usually add a half-ounce of these low alpha noble hops).

For the American twist variety, I would suggest 67% Vanguard of Mt. Hood/33% Sterling

Either of those mixes sound really good.

And I like the idea of some flavor hops. I’m cool with that.

There was a comment from Matt Brophy, the Head Brewer, that said something about an American twist. How about using some US Liberty or even some US Mt Hood.

I have to say that a combination somewhere with the Hallertauer and a small amount of the Mt. Hood could make a good “American Twist” on this.
